I am looking in to the tiling game and have found many courses that offer short courses that are not related to any tiling qualification or tiling nvq.

Would you recommend doing a short non Tiling NVQ related course, or should I do one of these NVQ’s?

  • Little Mitch says:

I’d do a full NVQ as it’s the current tiling qualifications. Although I only do domestic work and don’t get asked if I have NVQ’s i’d still like to know I could still get a job if/when they do make domestic work strict like site work.

I did a two week course two years ago, and i cant keep up with the work, having a qualification doesnt make you a better tiler, i do a lot of work for builders, interior designers, and architects, and i have never been asked if i have any qualifications. I trained at Alpine training group, in Rye, East Sussex. I had never tiled before, if you do a good job and pay attention to detail, you will always be busy. Good luck

hello mate. NVQ is a recognised qaulification, so you might want to get it as if you want to tile on sites etc. you will need it anyway to get your CSCS card..

  • Little Mitch says:

So a Tiling NVQ is required for site-work then. Even if it’s to get the CSCS card?

  • Tile Guy says:

There has been confusion over this tiling NVQ situation throughout the country for some time now. The powers that be need to either make it standard or not put preasure on the tilers to get through the NVQ.

  • Paul Liverpool tiler says:

I have been tiling for 6 years now first of all completing a 4 week course and then training for 2 years on site. I dont have an nvq because you dont need it, You can get a cscs card for £35 from your local citb office as this is only a health & safety card and does not say you are a tiler or bricky etc. Do the course mate, and try to buddy with an experienced hand and trust me you will reap the benefits asap instead of not earning for 2 years.

  • Daveyboy says:

I agree that you don’t need a qualification. I completed a short course in Stoke-on-trent at Construction Skills College and after the course i was given and still have full support. Due to this I am now snowed under with work. May go for the NVQ in the future, as I don’t ever want to turn work down and it will be needed for sites. But try these short courses, they work as people on here will tell you. The one I went to can be seen on http://www.tradeteacher.co.uk, you can even see me in the photos.
