Please check out the new Tiling Forum. A refreshing change from the options available, if you think those existing tiling forums are not what you’re looking for.

TilingForums.co.uk has no form of advertising around the website. So you won’t see sponsors or Google advertisements. The website will be moderated by wall and floor tilers and not by companies who provide products and / or services to the tile industry, which sort of makes advise biased. The forum will never change, so you will only need to register the once. It will be funded by the bloke that makes forums for a living, so you know it wont shut down like TilerSpace did some time ago, losing everybody’s profiles that were on there, and all their contributions to the website.

The forum isn’t setup to obtain personal customers for tiling work, as the forum owner doesn’t do wall and floor tiling for a living. You won’t see posts and threads simply posted to rank the owners business in search engines either. The owner doesn’t sell tile sealers, or any other tile related products for that matter. And the owner never has sold any tile related products and never will.

So if you’re looking for a tiling forum that is totally unconnected to anything commercially orientated, then you’ve found the only one that exists. www.TilingForums.co.uk.

Anybody can register for free and use your signature to show who you are from within the industry. We are looking for wall and floor tilers, tile suppliers, stone suppliers, adhesive and grout manufacturers, tool stores, and anybody else from within the industry.

You can read full details about why Tiling Forum was setup, and how it will be operated, by clicking HERE.

In November 2011 the trading name of WeDoTrades, EBH Web Limited, went into Liquidation. Many members of many forums including TilersForums.co.uk, UKPlumbersForums.co.uk and ElectriciansForums.co.uk claim that although they paid expensive costs to WeDoTrades, they never sore work come in from the website.

Penman and Sommerlad of The Mirror Investigations show an Electrician that WeDoTrades let down badly. The member of ElectriciansForums.co.uk, Malcolm Bramhall stated that he had paid £1,200+VAT and he was promised to get that amount back on profit out of work given by WeDoTrades who claimed they had a tie-in with Countrywide Estate Agents, a large concern in the property industry, although Countrywide were reported to have told the Mirror Investigations that they had a “very small” trial with WeDoTrades and “a decision was taken in September not to pursue a working relationship with this company”.

WeDoTrades is now a trading name of Silvercom Limited which use the same virtual office address to trade from as the previous EBH Web Limited. So watch out.

In a time when the economy is unstable a website that acts as a middleman charging to connect customers with tradesmen are less and less required. There are more tradesmen out of work, and less customers having work done. So any money the customer has spare should not be given to a middleman but either saved, or put towards the job and paid directly to the tradesmen for their labour and / or materials required.

We recommend customers to search the internet and avoid directories but try to find tradesmen’s own websites where you can see feedback from customers, pictures of their work, information about what work they cover, and the area’s they work in. We recommend getting three quotes, and references from them all, and check their references out before booking any one of them. Customers would then save a little money, and perhaps in cases like these, the tradesmen would too.

Yet again the simple solution (it is always the simple ideas that work!) to core drilling tough porcelain tile has improved once more. First it was the anti-slip gel plate, then it was the drill-cooling sponge that was packaged using no extra plastic (for the recycle conscious amongst us) due to its special ‘growing’ properties (stick it in water and it expands). And now, for those annoying moments when you are stuck in a funny position and you have a cooled-down (and retracted) core drill bit that has trapped the core inside the bit, you have the PORSADRILL tile core ejector tool dubbed the J-hook for its shape.

The PORSADRILL J-Hook (tile core ejector tool) is fully manufactured in the UK and compliments the range of core-drilling solutions offered by 365Drills in the PORSADRILL range. Sold separately to the main range of core drill bits which range from 6mm to 125mm and are available in 35 different sizes (fitting all of those round holes you might expect to see in walls in all bathrooms, kitchens and the likes) due to the fact that you only need to ever buy one for your tool kit, the PORSADRILL J-Hook is sure to be the bathroom fitters dream when it comes to protecting those screwdriver tips you tend to damage by prying out the tough porcelain and ceramic tile cores that often get stuck in the drill bit.

LET YOUR SCREWDRIVERS THANK YOU – USE A J-HOOK INSTEAD!

For more information on the Tile Core Ejector Tool by 365Drills visit www.365drills.com.

Expect to see the ‘J-Hook’ in stores priced at around £7.99. But as noted HERE you can expect to see the online price around the £4.99 mark.

Want to See More?

Then watch the video. The bloke in it is the inventor of the product.

The short but sweet Tiling Courses list has been updated. It hadn’t been touched since late in 2010 and was quite out of date. The few training centre’s listed should cater for pretty much any area of the country. Note that it is always recommended to go and physically visit at least 3 training centre’s and see the environments you could be learning the skills that you use for the rest of your life. So the most local training centre to you may not always be the wisest of choices. Often travelling a bit of a distance (and arguably travelling a long distance and arranging a B&B) can pay dividends when you come to get stuck on that job that you didn’t cover, because you went to your most local training centre and not a highly recommended one that might have been just a hours further drive.

Please feel free to reply to this blog post with details of the training centre you have attended that you would recommend yourself to others, and if you’re lucky enough, it might just get added to the main list.

The main list: www.uktilingnews.co.uk/tiling-courses/

It is probably fair to say that sWe’s wall and floor tiling guides have helped save 10′s of thousands of pounds in failures of wall and floor tiling jobs on bathrooms, kitchens, floors, conservatories and the likes. Possibly hundreds of thousands of tiles have stayed stuck to walls and floors of customers houses a lot longer than they would perhaps have been without tilers reading and taking note of some of the important points raised in the guides.

Professional tilers’ advice should always be followed on a per-job basis. It is recommended that customers get specifications from at least three fully qualified wall and floor tilers (and not general builders, or plumbers, etc) before commencing work.

Tiling undertaken throughout the UK but mostly in the Midlands including (but not limited to); Dudley, Stourbridge, Halesowen, Kidderminster, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Worcester and Cannock in the Staffordshire area.

Electric Underfloor Heating Installations

Electric Underfloor Heating can be installed in any room of your home and NP Tiling can supply and install your electric UHF at competitive rates. Underfloor Heating is the best source of heat for most types of rooms including small or large, conservatories, bathrooms, shower rooms, kitchens, living spaces and so on.

Tanking and Wetrooms

Tanking systems for wet area’s such as bathrooms, shower rooms and wetrooms are a must to prevent water damage to the substrate at a later date, which is a common cause for reinstalling a bathroom much earlier than its lifespan could last if installed and protected well the first time. The tanking and waterproofing systems vary depending on the size of the area required to be tanked but in most cases it is as simple as using a waterpoof coating which is applied using a roller, trowel, or paint brush. This then ensures that even if water does get behind the tiles, the background which can often be water sensitive plaster, render, or even worse plasterboard (which is commonly seen mouldy and badly damaged when ripping out old bathrooms and tiles).

Commercial and Domestic Work Undertaken

NP Tiling take on both domestic work and commercial contracts for large jobs including site work.
Amey Tiling, professional wall and floor tilers in Lymington, are continuing to expand their business in the area. 9 years ago Richard Amey started out wall and floor tiling, and for the past 3 years has been running his own business, Amey Tiling, along with his brother, due to the poor quality of workmanship being accepted in the area by customers and builders as a whole.

2012 is coming and soon into the new year Amey Tiling will have a second larger van on the road and will even be taking on an apprentice under the Princes Trust scheme.

50% of work comes from regular domestic homeowners, and 50% from small builders. Amey Tiling are fussy about which builders to carry out work for as substandard is not accepted in any shape or form. Through sticking to this very good principle not only does Amey Tiling have no failures, even years later, but builders (and their customers) in the area of Lymington are even starting to accept the fact that only a high standard of work using the correct materials and practises is acceptable. And doing the job correctly the first time means it works out cheaper long-term as it only needs to be done the once.

More wall and floor tilers need to take on this fact, if all tilers ‘stuck to their guns’ on this matter, no work would be done but good quality tiling, and everybody would enjoy going to work, and reap the rewards from having near zero failures.

The First Amey Tiling Van

Amey Tiling does not need to advertise anywhere to gain business, word of mouth and a single (for now) sign-written van that is noticeable (blue van, white signage). The current van is a Vauxhall Combo which has been reliable enough to say the least, but the next van needs to be bigger. Vans being considered include Vauxhall Vivaro and the Nissan Vannette. Though please feel free to suggest similar vans in the comments box below.
