19th August 2008
KBBREVIEW EXPO 2009 joins forces with The Tile and Floor Show and Floorstyle.
Kbbreview Expo 2009, the trade exhibition for the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom industry, is proud to announce it will now be joining forces with two other successful events – The Tile & Stone Show and Floorstyle.
Held at London’s multi award winning ExCeL centre, the obvious links between the respective target audiences make the partnership an immediate success. Dmg world media, the organiser of kbbreview Expo 2009, says the aim is to offer one exhibition bringing together the overlapping kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, tiles, stone and flooring industries under one roof.
The single exhibition, held from May 10-12 2009, will also see the famous 1,000 seat kbbreview Industry Awards held on the Monday night of the show.
The Tile & Stone Show and Floorstyle are organised by Kick Start publishing, the company behind well known titles - Tile & Stone Journal (the official magazine for The Tile Association, and Contract Flooring Journal (the official magazine for the Contract Flooring Association). The two shows were run side by side at ExCeL London at the end of June this year and featured a wide range of exhibitors from the practical tools and fixing sector through to the latest designs from major manufacturers.
Patrick Taylor, group publishing and events director for dmg world media, said: “The synergies between kbbreview Expo and The Tile & Stone Show and Floorstyle are so obvious joining together under one banner feels like a very natural fit.
“It’s great news for dmg and Kick Start, but more significantly it’s great news for all the industries and sectors previously covered by the three shows. It means a wider audience and the chance to expand the horizons of visitors into areas that perhaps they don’t work with everyday but so clearly should. I’m very excited that this partnership will result in an even more exciting and valuable show for everyone concerned.”
The announcement also provides an important boost for kbbreview Expo 2009 and puts it in prime position ahead of the rival CMP - KBB London show that scheduled itself a week after Expo at Earls Court.
“We always said that while the Earls Court show was an inconvenience, we were more than confident that the industry was ultimately made up of professional business people and they would make their decision based on hard facts,” said Taylor. “The Expo was always the most established show with the best credentials, but now it is incorporating The Tile & Stone Show and Floorstyle as well as the kbbreview Industry Awards it is in a different class.”
Based on previous shows, the joint event is expected to attract over 10,000 visitors from across all sectors.
Stuart Bourne, Kick Start’s sales director, said: “I am delighted that we are now part of a very constructive partnership with dmg. The 2008 Tile & Stone Show and Floorstyle events were very successful and now that we’re joining kbbreview Expo they’ve opened up to become a really significant part of a wider picture.
“Our knowledge of the tile, stone and flooring markets combined with dmg’s knowledge of not only kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms but also its considerable experience and expertise in exhibitions and events is an irresistible combination. Equally, being part of an occasion that is associated with the company’s portfolio of magazines - including kbbreview itself - is a real privilege. Together we make a pretty formidable team and the 2009 event will be a real highpoint for the entire industry.”

Diamond Training Centre is the older training centre out of the two and has served more students for at least that reason. It sounds like so far Danny will be keeping the Diamond Training Centre location though no talk has been said about the facilities at Essex Tiling Training.

Schluter Systems Ltd sponsors tilersforums.co.uk, the UK’s biggest tile community. For some time it’s been on the cards but now its official.

Schluter Systems Ltd Company Time-line

Thanks to the spirit of research espoused by company founder Werner Schlüter we have become what we are now: Today, Schlüter-SCHIENE is a world-renowned and successful product. No wonder that we are still at the top of our game - always there to make your life easier. We are firmly committed to detail, which means our solutions are so subtle that, ideally, they are not even noticed.

Product tests at FLIESEN SCHLÜTER for first class system solutions.

As we were relating the story of the Schlüter-SCHIENE profile, we again realised the importance of keeping in touch with on-the-job practice. In our company, even during the test phase, each product has to stand up to everyday situations. We allow ourselves the luxury of a separate company for this purpose: Our tile installation operation, FLIESEN-SCHLÜTER operates on the regional market in Iserlohn. This is where we test all our new products for processing and market suitability.

Practical solutions for practical problems …

… is not just some motto of ours, it has been a successful Schlüter tradition - for more than thirty years. But it is not only because of good ideas that we are where we are today; it is also because of our qualified and motivated personnel. With this in mind, we invest just as much in continuous training and development for our employees as we do in developing our production facilities.
Because it is very important to us that our products are effective in everyday situations, each of our new products also undergoes both internal quality tess and testing carried out by reputable independent institutes.

In the seventies, along with Schlüter-SCHIENE, we developed the Schlüter-REMA magnet system for creating concealed tile panels, and the Schlüter-TREP stair nosing profile. Our Schlüter-JOLLY profile, made from stainless steel, colour coated aluminium or PVC, finally provided the market with a product to solve the problem of unglazed tile edges on wall coverings.

By the end of the seventies we were forming the basis for functional and safe balcony and terrace coverings with the development of Schlüter-TROBA as a sub-surface drainage system.

In 1985, the first Schlüter-DILEX profile appeared on the market, making it possible to construct long-lasting, maintenance-free movement joints with no time delays.

After coming onto the market in 1987, Schlüter-DITRA became the universally used substrate matting, combining the product properties uncoupling, waterproofing, and vapour pressure equalisation in one layer.

At the end of the nineties, Schlüter-BEKOTEC was brought onto the market - a flooring assembly for coverings over insulation layers and radiant floor heating systems.

We have also begun the new millennium in an innovative manner: By converting the profile geometry to the patented joint spacer - for a uniform joint and simpler grouting.

We have developed Schlüter-BEKOTEC-THERM, the ceramic thermal comfort floor, on the basis of Schlüter-BEKOTEC. In addition to the products required to assemble floors, we have been offering a complete range of heating technology components from a single source under this brand name since 2003.

I have had the privilege of road testing the NEW Rubi ti-66s tile cutter…..

First impressions was that it was very light in weight compared to similar machines of its size…..

Also the build quality is very good….apart from maybe they could have used a better slide mechanism for the breaker handle but it still performs well……

It is completely aluminium apart from the steel guide rail….

It has a sprung loaded bed and swing out support arms for larger tiles.I found that an excellent feature.

The guide rail is very easy to set up and just clicks into place with a single lock down clasp.
And the measuring guide is very easy to read..

The handle/cutting wheel is a push system on this model and they also do a pull system as well ..

The cutting wheel has a simple quick release button unlike other models that you have to knock a pin out to release the cutting wheel…..

here’s a couple pics of the cutter….

<view the review for the pictures>

First a tried it on porcelain floor tiles and it cut them no probs even right down to about a 15mm slither….

I tried it on hard porcelanato grade 5 tiles…no problem

i tried it on glass mosaics again the movable breaker and small foot did a great job of breaking the mosaics individually……

So out come a 600 x 300 highly polished porcelain tile and it cut a 20mm slither first go….

The only problem i have with the cutter is that it can break ceramic tiles if you are to heavy on the handle when breaking the tiles….but all in all it is a good cutter from Rubi……and i would recommend it……

So thanks to all at Rubi for letting me try it out…….

A couple from the forum: Tiling Tools Starter Kit, Which Tile Cutter to Use (poll), Best Tile Cutters, Manual Tile Cutter.

When the young master tile installer Werner Schlüter was laying tiles in a bathroom with 5 doors, he hit on the idea of using Schlüter-SCHIENE: this was the beginning of a successful career as an entrepreneur.
Inventions don’t drop out of the sky; they emerge out of practical experiences. The really successful ideas are often the result of years of experience, combined with a good deal of creativity. And they are always a reflection of the time in which they are created.
Today, that young master tile installer’s name stands for an internationally renowned brand and company.

Schlüter-Systems Ltd is the wholly owned UK subsidiary of Schlüter-Systems KG. Our base in the UK is situated at Coalville, Leicestershire, where we provide full sales and technical support for customers in the UK and Ireland. There are six other subsidiaries around the world, in France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, The United States, and Canada, plus agencies and distribution partners in many other countries.

Here in the UK, Schlüter was founded in 1993, and is now headed up by Managing Director Elaine Stokes, with the help of a dedicated senior management team.

The Schlüter team works closely with distributors, stockists and tiling contractors — providing the best customer service available — actively helping to ensure a long lasting, attractive installation. Schlüter’s renowned technical expertise includes advising architects, specifiers and contractors, before they carry out the installation, preventing tomorrow’s problems.
